Governmental Casino in Korea |

The nearest casinos to Japan are based in Korea. There are casinos for
non-Koreans in Seoul and Jeju however the Kang Won Land is the first casino
that caters for Koreans. The casino is located some 4 hours driving time
east of Seoul and the resort includes both a casino and a hotel. The casino
was opened in October 2000 and has proved to be very popular with many customers
visiting daily.
It is quite unlike a Las Vegas or a European style casino, currently there
are 30 tables including roulette and 480 slot machines. With 4,600 square
metres the casino is not huge. The hotel has 199 rooms and being very busy,
there is difficulty in securing a room. In the near future, they are planning
to expand and build a theme park, golf course and ski resort. It is gathering
interest as a leisure facility complex. (Extracts the 4th January, 2003
